Wendt Corp., a Buffalo, New York-based manufacturer of shredding and separation recycling solutions, has signed a joint venture agreement with Proman Infrastructure Services Pvt. Ltd., which is based in Bangalore, India, to establish Wendt Proman Metal Recycling Pvt. Ltd. to service customers in India. Proman specializes in heavy industrial equipment solutions with a focus on crushing, screening and material handling solutions.
According to Wendt, the new joint venture leverages the two companies’ expertise. Through the new joint venture, Proman will contribute local manufacturing infrastructure, an exclusive sales network, postsale service and support and expertise on India’s industrial market, while Wendt will supply a portfolio of shredding and nonferrous product designs, solutions and engineering support.
Wendt says the companies have identified India as an emerging market for shredding and separation technologies.
New government regulations in India outline criteria for defining end-of-life vehicles (ELVs) and scrapping them. R.S. Raghavan, managing director of Proman, says the availability of scrap “is a major issue in India, with the current deficit of around 7 million tons.”
He says, “With a recent increase in the consumption of steel and ELVs within the Indian market over the past few years, we anticipate the volume of available scrap to also increase, opening up the opportunity for new and modern recycling plants. Our joint venture with Wendt will allow us to offer complete shredding and recycling solutions at a competitive price with local after-sales support in India.”
According to Wendt, there is high growth potential in India for hammermill shredders because of the current estimates of about 10 million unfit vehicles on the road in that nation.
In August 2022, Wendt also formed Wendt GmbH in Germany. Wendt says the formation of Wendt Proman Metal Recycling Pvt. Ltd. represents its continued commitment to global expansion.
“We are proud to join forces with Proman, combining our experience in auto shredding and leading-edge technology with their large-scale manufacturing capabilities and Indian market expertise,” says Tom Wendt, president of Wendt Corp. “The combination of our complementary services allows us to properly serve the expanding market needs of the Indian market and surrounding regions as a full-service organization.”
