Sweden-based Volvo Construction Equipment and its Volvo CE North America business unit have announced that a subsidiary of a Portuguese company has acquired a Volvo dealership in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Nors Construction Equipment GW Ltd., a subsidiary of Portugal-based Nors Group, has acquired certain Volvo CE-related assets of Westcon Equipment and is appointed the exclusive Volvo CE dealer in the province of Manitoba. The transaction closed this Jan. 1.

Nors Group is not a newcomer to Volvo CE dealerships in Canada, with the firm’s subsidiary already having a presence in nine Canadian provinces and the Yukon Territory.

In Manitoba, Westcon has sold and serviced Volvo CE equipment since 2004, according to Volvo.

“A new Nors location in Winnipeg will offer the full Volvo CE product range, including compact, electric, general production, compaction and rigid hauler products," the company adds.

“I want to thank the employees at Westcon for their dedication over the past two decades,” says Scott Young, head of the North America region for Volvo CE. “Their commitment ensures that we will continue to deliver quality products and responsive service to our customers across Manitoba as this new chapter begins with Nors.”

Nors operates companies that sell and service construction, infrastructure, mining, forestry and agricultural equipment, trucks, buses, and marine and industrial engines in 17 countries on four continents.

The Portuguese company acquired the former Strongco Corp., based in Ontario, in 2020 as its first step into the Canadian market. Nors continued its growth in the Canadian market through its acquisition of British Columbia-based Great West Equipment in March 2024.

“With so many years of experience in the construction equipment industries, we’re confident that we will be able to leverage all the great work done so far by Westcon," Nors President and Group CEO Tomás Jervell. "This step will also strengthen our presence in Canada, and we expect to deliver very positive outcomes for all our stakeholders. It’s a significant milestone for the group, and we’re excited for this new chapter.”
