Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE), Shippensburg, Pennsylvania, has unveiled a new size class of articulated dump trucks as part of the company’s fully revamped articulated hauler lineup. The A50 articulated hauler offers a 50-ton payload capacity and full-suspension technology, providing contractors a new option to handle rough terrain in construction sites.
The company says the A50 delivers 10 percent more productivity and 8 percent greater fuel efficiency compared with the previous generation’s A45G FS. It also features improved full-suspension technology for faster travel speed and a smoother ride.
“Volvo invented the articulated hauler, and we are proud to keep pushing the category forward with this new addition,” says Tyler Smith, product manager for articulated haulers. “Customers were asking for a truck with this payload capacity, and the A50 is a great way to achieve more for less with the same incredible strength and durability that make our articulated haulers the market favorite.”
A Volvo-developed transmission can help boost fuel efficiency, according to Volvo CE. The hauler also includes a Volvo drivetrain with Terrain Memory and predictive gear selection for improved traction, stability and fuel efficiency, as well as a wider field of vision and a tailgate with longer arms than its predecessor.
Key features include a full hydraulic suspension for shorter cycle times and increased production, a payload capacity of 99,208 pounds, a net weight of 74,075 pounds and a Volvo D16J engine with maximum horsepower of 516 hp at an engine speed of 1,900 rpm.
The Volvo A50 articulated hauler will make its North American tradeshow debut at World of Asphalt in St. Louis, March 25-27.
