The board of education of Springfield, Missouri, reportedly has accepted a $1.195 million bid to demolish vacant structures and a pedestrian bridge in the Show Me State.

A report by the Springfield News-Leader says Courtney Construction LLC of Mountain Grove, Missouri, has been awarded the contract to demolish vacant structures and prepare the site so it can become the new Pipkin Middle School.

According to the newspaper, the planned middle school will be located on an 8.86-acre site it purchased for $8 million from the General Council of the Assembly of God. Structures on the site formerly served as the home of a Methodist church, according to the News-Leader.

In addition to taking down the former church, “The work also includes removing utilities, parking lots, sidewalks, trees, landscaping, fencing and an existing pedestrian bridge,” writes the newspaper.

The school board voted unanimously to approve the demolition package. A notice to proceed that will allow work to start is expected to be issued this Feb. 26, adds the media outlet. Construction of the new, 115,000-square-foot school building is expected to be completed in 2027, says the News -Leader.

A current Pipkin Middle School building will at that time likely become vacant, with the regional newspaper indicating its fate relative to becoming another demolition project has not been decided.

On its LinkedIn page, Courtney Construction describes itself as offering general construction, demolition, excavation, sitework, earthwork, concrete and other services. Posts made by the firm last year refer to demolition projects in Kirksville and Savannah, Missouri.
