A five-story building in Gwangju, South Korea, collapsed onto a bus during demolition on June 9, killing nine, CNN reports. Eight more individuals were declared injured by the country’s Ministry of the Interior and Safety.
The bus was stationary on an adjacent road to the building when it suddenly fell.
None of the 16 demolition workers on-site suffered any injuries, according to reports.
Following the collapse, approximately 190 firefighters were deployed to the site to commence a search and rescue operation.
Although the cause of the collapse has not been made public, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport is investigating the incident.
