The Recycling Today Media Group, a division of GIE Media, has added Mallory Szczepanski to its staff in the newly created position of event and content producer.
In this role, Szczepanski, who is based out of Traverse City, Michigan, is responsible for curriculum development for Recycling Today Media Group events, which include the Battery & Critical Metals Recycling Conference, Scrap Expo, MRF Operations Forum, Paper & Plastics Recycling Conference and Waste Today’s Corporate Growth Conference. Her duties include speaker recruitment and marketing strategy development for the group’s events, as well as developing print and digital content across Recycling Today Media Group’s titles.

She will collaborate closely with Recycling Today Media Group Publisher James R. Keefe, Editorial Director DeAnne Toto and the rest of the editorial team, as well as with the group’s marketing and sales teams.

Szczepanski previously was the vice president of marketing and communications for the National Waste & Recycling Association (NWRA) and the publisher and editor-in-chief of the association’s WasteRecycling magazine, which was produced quarterly. She was responsible for managing member relations; leading education programs for meetings and events, including WasteExpo, North America’s largest solid waste, recycling and organics industry event; managing NWRA’s social media accounts, website, publications and marketing efforts; and serving as the NWRA staff lead for the association’s Education and Membership committees.
Szczepanski has worked as a business-to-business (B2B) journalist since 2011, covering industries such as waste and recycling, architecture and design and food and beverage. Before joining NWRA, she was the editorial director at Waste360, having led all editorial efforts for the online publication and WasteExpo.
With a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Columbia College Chicago, Szczepanski recently participated in the 2023-2024 Leadership Grand Traverse and 2023 Women's Leadership Cohort programs through Traverse Connect. She also is the founder of Fear The Writer LLC and serves as the program chair for the Traverse City Young Professionals, a board member for Addiction Treatment Services and was honored as one of the 2023 Influential Women of Northern Michigan by the Traverse City Record-Eagle.
