Just months after the sudden loss of a demolition industry leader, the National Demolition Association (NDA) has launched an award in his honor.
The NDA Awards Committee and NDA Safety Committee has developed the Mike Casbon Safety Award to honor the late Casbon, who passed away March 17, and his commitment to safety in the industry.
An expert with 25 years of experience in the fields of demolition, decontamination and construction, Casbon was a member of NDA’s Education Committee, Safety Committee and Government Affairs Committee.
NDA says Casbon was instrumental in the development of NDA’s Foundations of Demolition Management education series, and he posthumously received NDA’s Hall of Fame Award in 2019. In addition to his contributions to the NDA, he was also a subject matter expert for the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Training Institute (OTI) and had trained more than 1,000 compliance officers on field inspection principles.
The award includes three sections: lagging indicators, narrative and safety culture, all of which total a possible 36 points.
Honorees will be divided into three categories: less than 50,000 man hours per year, 50,000 to 199,999 man hours per year, and more than 200,000 man hours per year.
All applications must be received by October 11, 2019. NDA will distribute the award, along with others, during the NDA Annual Convention Feb. 25, 2020.
