The National Demolition Association (NDA), Washington, will host its first Live Demo Challenge at its annual convention this March in San Antonio. The challenge will take place Thursday, March 7, during the event, which is March 6-9.
Two-person teams from demolition companies that enter the challenge will have the opportunity to compete for an all-inclusive paid trip at a luxury resort and spa.
“Display your knowledge and skills in a three-part challenge, including a safety knowledge quiz, equipment inspection and operator’s skills course," the NDA says. "You must compete each stage before moving on to the next."
Competitors, who must represent an active NDA company, are being accepted on a first-come, first-served basis via the NDA website.
First-place winners will receive an all-inclusive paid trip at the Kingsmill Resort & Spa golf resort in Williamsburg, Virginia.
The safety quiz will be timed and a team member will have to pass it before the team can move on to the equipment inspection challenge. That involves working through a list of items recommended for inspection and maintenance on equipment manufacturers’ 8-hour and 50-hour recommended maintenance lists and other fundamental equipment inspection checklists.
Finally, the operator’s skills course consists of multiple stages intended to display different skills and efficiencies in the operation of demolition equipment that includes excavators, their attachments and the hydraulic coupling systems that link them.
Liebherr is serving as a sponsor of the challenge and is providing two excavator models as part of the contest. Other equipment suppliers involved in the contest are attachment vendors Epiroc, ShearCore and OilQuick.
