NDA mourns passing of Bill Gumbiner

Gumbiner served for 12 years on the NDA board of directors, chaired a number of committees including the annual convention committee, and was instrumental in preparing the NDA Safety Manual.

The National Demolition Association (NDA) recently announced that William “Bill” Gumbiner had passed away July 26. Gumbiner served for 12 years on the NDA board of directors, chaired a number of committees including the annual convention committee, and was instrumental in preparing the NDA Safety Manual.

An estimating expert with over 40 years of experience, Gumbiner taught many estimating courses and seminars throughout his career. His depth of experience was instrumental in the creation of the NDA’s Foundations of Demolition Management Certificate Program. The series was launched with the inaugural estimating course in 2016, which was built from a foundation of Gumbiner’s experience, lectures and material.

“Bill’s contribution to the industry and to the National Demolition Association is immense. Our membership and our board of directors owes Bill a great deal of gratitude. We are fortunate to have been able to collaborate with Mr. Gumbiner and capture his base of knowledge. His insight and experience were integral to the creation of the NDA’s Demolition Management Certificate Program. We are saddened to hear of his passing. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and colleagues,” NDA President Christopher Godek says.

Gumbiner leveraged his more than 55 years of senior management, estimating and marketing expertise to support owners and estimators. Since 1982, the individuals Gumbiner has mentored have gone on to become company owners, regional managers, project superintendents, estimators and marketing managers. As an outgrowth of his demolition industry expertise, leadership style and passion for passing on his experience in estimating and marketing, Gumbiner founded Noblesville, Indiana-based Demolition Industry Consultants in 2004.

Gumbiner is survived by his two children, two grandchildren and two brothers. Donations may be given to the American Kidney Foundation in Gumbiner's name in lieu of flowers.
