The Muncie, Indiana, Board of Public Works and Safety awarded thousands of dollars in demolition contracts for a large-scale blighted demolition project, a report by The Star Press says. The contracts were awarded to two demolition companies.
Shroyer Bros., Muncie, Indiana, won contracts for three sets of multiple blighted homes at $73,675, $133,740 and $83,245, according to the report. Merritt and Son Excavating, Kokomo, Indiana, won contracts for four sets of properties worth $105,700, $141,300, $141,000 and $122,300.
Muncie received $4 million in 2014 from the state’s Hardest Hit Fund. According to the report, 88 properties in total were awarded to the two companies, bringing the city to 200 blighted homes demolished with the funds.
According to the report, the properties will be checked for asbestos and will be remediated within the next two months. Demolition of the homes may take 90 to 121 days.
