The owner of a construction and demolition landfill in Lake Charles, Louisiana, is planning to relocate the company's concrete crushing operation in response to complaints from area residents about dust and noise, KPLC reports.
Ricky Tommasi, owner of Tomassi Brothers Inc., says he will move concrete crushing services to a nearby yard to cut down on dust.
“There won’t be [any] concrete trucks in operation going on,” Tommasi says. “We’re going to move that away and we’ll crush here one more time.”
Tommasi also plans to prohibit work in the landfill before 7 a.m., though some employees may drive equipment away earlier. He says the landfill uses cameras to verify that only C&D waste is being brought in.
While residents have requested a public hearing on the matter, Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality has not yet scheduled a hearing.
