Dustboss adds DB-45 Surge to water cannon line

Peoria, Illinois-based BossTek has released the DustBoss DB-45 Surge model as the “powerful" new mobile midsized next iteration of its Surge atomized mist technology dust-suppression water cannon.

The company says the DB-45, designed in response to input from customers in the demolition and bulk material handling sectors, features an "innovative" pressurized center nozzle paired with a fan and misting ring system to suppress surface dust and airborne particulates.

The new model offers three remote-controlled stages and what BossTek calls precision oscillation for optimum command over water volume and coverage area.

“The DB-45 Surge delivers the dependability of atomized mist along with J2P [jet-to-plume] nozzle technology that surges for over 200 feet, even in troublesome windy conditions,” the company says.

The result is what BossTek calls an easily maneuverable, autonomous and versatile dust control system for outdoor operations in all weather conditions.

“Our first iteration of this technology was larger for operations with high-reach cranes and enormous coverage areas,” BossTek Dust Control Specialist Mike Lewis says. “Managers of medium and smaller operations were impressed with the existing technology but wanted a lighter and more compact option that offered the same excellent field-tested versatility and results. With a 200-foot throw range, I’d say that most of our customers will be well served by the new model.”

BossTek lists demolition contractors with high-reach cranes, port operators that host tall cargo ships and bulk handlers with tall stockpiles of raw material, including auto shredding plants, as those that commonly experience windy conditions high above the ground.

In turbulent situations, dust is lifted into the atmosphere and carried beyond the site line over long distances, which can lead to permit violations.

The three adjustable stages of the DB-45 Surge are easily input by the touchscreen system, BossTek says. Stage 1 is designed for moderate weather days, while Stage 2 features a pressurized stream to pinpoint a source of dust. On windy days, operators can choose Stage 3, which uses the fan, misting ring and center nozzle for maximum coverage.

The DB-45 Surge has been designed to be “set it and forget it” autonomous equipment, the company says, unlike hoses and industrial sprinklers that may require constant manual labor to monitor and operate.

Manual operation of such hoses can keep workers in active zones near moving equipment, increasing the chance of injury and raising the costs of operation for sprinklers and hoses due to extra labor and possible liability, the firm adds.
