Demolition of the Valley View Center mall in Dallas begins after a delay due to zoning issues, a report by the Dallas Business Journal says. Developer Scott Beck of Beck Ventures, Dallas, is replacing the mall with a $4 billion revitalization project.
A form-based zoning code that, according to a separate Dallas Business Journal report, limits floor-to-ceiling building to 25 feet, delayed the project. A part of the mixed-used development plan includes a movie theater, which requires 35 to 40 foot buildings for the screen. According to the report, Beck filled out an application with the zoning board and while it was approved, he needed to go back to the board for permits.
An official ceremony for the demolition was held on Friday, June 23 at 9:30 a.m., which was open to the public. Before the ceremony, demolition crews from Lloyd D. Nabors Demolition, the contractor hired by back, already began tearing down a former Macy’s store on-site.
