The main tower of Millard Fillmore Gates Circle Hospital in Buffalo, New York, came down in seconds in front of hundreds of spectators early on a chilly October morning. According to an article on the Buffalo News website, the controlled implosion of the former hospital took place at 7:20 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, 2015.
The article says a plunger on the top of a nearby parking garage provided the catalyst for the implosion of the 11-story building. The hospital building was imploded with a series of explosive charges.
Buffalo-based Ontario Specialty Contracting completed the demolition. It will take approximately three months to sort through and haul away the debris, including steel, which will be recycled. The concrete will be recycled on site for use as a construction base. The site is being redeveloped by real estate company TM Montante of Tonawanda, New York.
