The Construction & Demolition Recycling Association (CDRA) announced that Michael Gross, director of sustainability at San Jose, California-based Zanker Recycling, and Clarence “Jay” Giltz, senior sales representative at Galion, Ohio-based Eagle Crusher, will be inducted into its C&D Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame awards—the association’s highest honor—will be presented at C&D World 2019 March 10-12 in Brooklyn, New York.
Construction & Demolition Recycling, South Gate, California, will be named C&D Recycler of the Year, while Terri Ward, vice president of business development at New Brunswick, Canada-based Sparta Manufacturing, will be named CDRA Member of the Year.
“This year’s group of CDRA award winners exemplify the best in C&D recycling,” says Troy Lautenbach, president of the CDRA and of Lautenbach Recycling. “The C&D industry is better off thanks to their efforts.
C&D Hall of Fame
Michael Gross has worked in the industry for almost 30 years, and is well-known throughout the West Coast waste and recycling industry. Gross was a long-time member of the CDRA’s board, and was responsible for shaping the association’s policy and helping develop such programs as the Certification of Recycling Rates (CORR) initiative. He still serves on the board of the Recycling Certification Institute, which administers the CORR program. He has represented the C&D recycling industry to the USGBC and the U.S. EPA, as well as worked heavily with California legislators and regulators in pushing forward the C&D recyclers’ agenda. Gross also is involved in several charitable organizations in the Bay Area.
Jay Giltz has helped position Eagle Crusher to become one of the leading suppliers of crushers to the recycling industry and has worked to help engineer the crushing systems to more efficiently work in the challenging recycling environment. He has served on the CDRA board of directors and has helped provide guidance on how to best serve the aggregate recycling industry. Giltz is only the second vendor to be inducted in the C&D Hall of Fame.
C&D Recycler of the Year
Construction and Demolition Recycling Inc., which is affiliated with demolition contractor Interior Removal Specialists, is a recycling company that focuses on the recycling of often-forgotten commercial interior demolition debris. The company also oversees a donation program that reintroduces hundreds of tons of office furniture and fixtures back into the community every year through their partnerships with dozens of non-profit agencies.
CDRA Member of the Year
The CDRA says that Terri Ward has been named CDRA Member of the Year because of her tireless work on the association’s membership/marketing committee, as well as the direction she offers as a member of the CDRA’s executive committee. Ward, who previously served as national sales manager at Wilsonville, Oregon-based SSI Shredding Systems, has been involved in the waste industry for 30 years.
All the award winners will be honored as part of the CDRA’s Annual Membership Meeting at C&D World 2019 March 9-12 in Brooklyn, New York. This marks the fifth year the awards have been given out. For more information about the event, go to https://cdrecycling.org/news/c-d-world-2019/.
