The global construction and demolition (C&D) waste management market size was estimated at $162 billion in 2023 and is expected to reach $261 billion by 2032, at a compound annual growth rate of 5.5 percent during the forecast period of 2024-2032, according to new research released by SNS Insider, an India-based market research and consulting agency.

The C&D waste management market is growing rapidly due to increasing urbanization, regulatory shifts and advancements in recycling technologies, with a strong focus on sustainable solutions to address rising waste and environmental challenges, according to the report.

Global rising population will create increasing demand for housing and infrastructure, SNS Insider says, leading to substantial amounts of waste that require effective management and disposal. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has set guidelines to address this waste responsibly, advocating for a sustainable approach through Sustainable Materials Management (SMM), an initiative that promotes the recycling of C&D debris for reuse in new construction projects, significantly lowering landfill waste, the report says.

In 2023, the market has witnessed notable technological advancements in recycling processes to improve efficiency in C&D waste management, according to the report. SNS highlighted Holcim’s EcoCycle platform, employing techniques for processing and recycling construction waste, as being a notable example of the industry’s move toward sustainability.

In North America, about 600 million tons of C&D debris were produced in 2023, showcasing a high level of waste generation from continuous infrastructure growth.

The soil, sand and gravel segment was the top market performer in 2023, according to the report, with a share of more than 35 percent.
