Equipment maker Case New Holland (CNH) says two of its loader models have been honored with Good Design Awards, which are handed out by the Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design and Metropolitan Arts Press Ltd.

The loaders honored are the battery-powered Case 580EV Backhoe Loader and the New Holland Construction W40X Electric Power, another plug-in battery-powered machine. “Their styling matches the innovation within the machines,” says David Wilkie, head of industrial design at United Kingdom-based CNH.

CNH says the compact New Holland Construction W40X Electric Power model has been recognized for its “innovative styling that complements its engineering prowess.” The model is produced by the New Holland business unit of CNH, which was founded in Pennsylvania and maintains offices and manufacturing capacity there.

States CNH, “The seamless integration of aesthetics and functionality sets a new benchmark in the design of construction equipment.”

CNH calls the Case 580EV loader the industry’s first production-ready, purpose-built electric backhoe loader. “This recognition emphasizes Case’s commitment to innovation and sustainability, offering a sustainable alternative in the construction industry,” says the equipment provider.

The 580EV features ergonomic controls and an operator-focused cab equipped with an 8-inch touchscreen designed to provide ease of use and efficiency on the job site, according to the firm.

The Racine, Wisconsin-based Case Construction Equipment business unit of CNH says the 580EV “represents a big leap forward in electric construction machinery, combining the robust capabilities of its diesel counterpart with all the environmental and operational benefits of electric vehicle technology.”

Case says the loader’s zero onsite emissions and minimal noise features make it “an ideal solution for urban construction crews, utility teams, municipal crews and other contractors who want to work more productively while also minimizing carbon footprints.”

“We designed this workhorse machine from day one as a purpose-built, high-performing electric vehicle (EV), but we also wanted it to have a look and feel that operators would love,” says Terry Dolan of Case.

“This recognition from Good Design underscores our continued leadership in design excellence and functional innovation as we work harder than anyone to give contractors more tools in the toolbox for them to succeed on the jobsite,” adds Dolan.
