The best tool

A company’s greatest tool is a workforce of knowledgeable people.

The demolition and C&D recycling industries are always interested in the newest pieces of equipment. What system can sort the fastest and most accurately? What attachment and excavator combination can provide the most blowing force? What loader can tolerate the harshest environment? Those businesses that have the best tools at their disposal wind up being the most successful.

Of course we all know the most valuable tool in the shed is immeasurable, and that is the people who make up a company. At the Recycling Today Media Group, our goal is to provide our readers with resources to help sharpen those human tools, not just with feature articles and industry news, but also through events.

For more than a decade, we have been hosting conferences and virtual events covering a variety of recycling subjects, and we continue to broaden our offering in 2016 with the MRF and Recycling Plant Operations Forum and the Increasing Diversion webinar series.

The MRF & Recycling Plant Operations Forum will be at the Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile Hotel. The event takes place immediately preceding the 17th annual Paper & Plastics Recycling Conference at the same venue Oct. 19-21.

The forum, designed and produced in cooperation with RRT Design & Construction, Melville, New York, is tailored to operators of packing plants and of dual-stream, single-stream, municipal solid waste (MSW), construction and demolition (C&D) and plastics recovery facility (PRF) recycling plants.

If your business doesn’t allow you to take that much time away from the office, the Increasing Diversion webinar series may be more convenient. These hour-long webinars, Oct. 5, Nov. 3 and Dec. 1 are a cost-effective educational alternative that provides insights into the processes that can maximize profitability of C&D debris recycling through various methods to produce high-quality and marketable end products.

Recycling Today Media Group Publisher James R. Keefe stated at June’s WasteExpo in Las Vegas, “It is a very challenging time in the waste and recycling industry, and so we believe that insightful content that can help business managers make informed decisions, particularly in these challenging times, is really important so we are highly focused on that.”

Companies with a knowledgeable team that can effectively problem solve and innovate are the most successful in this highly competitive field with increasingly tough market conditions. It’s those companies that invest in education and training that gain an edge in business. I hope you will consider taking part in these educational opportunities and that those who do find them valuable.
