Safe Fleet announces 2020 Public Safety Hero award winner

Shawn Danielson from the Minot Sanitation Department in North Dakota was recognized for his exemplary driving record.

Safe Fleet, Quebec, recently announced the recipient of its 2020 Public Safety Hero award. Each year, Safe Fleet’s waste and recycling industry customers across North America are invited to nominate the safest drivers in their organization to participate in the company’s annual Public Safety Heroes program for a chance to win the grand prize of $1,000.

Shawn Danielson from the Minot Sanitation Department in North Dakota was nominated by the city Sanitation Foreman Ray Neuhalfen, who submitted data using the company’s FleetLink Reports to show Danielson’s road awareness and safety driving habits. On Nov. 16 during a live city council meeting, Danielson was called to the podium by Minot Mayor Shaun Sipma to receive his reward along with a special mayor’s coin.

Danielson has worked in the city’s sanitation department for six years and has an “impeccable safety record,” according to city of Minot Sanitation Superintendent Josh Kraft.

“Shawn is an exceptional driver who takes great pride in doing his job in the safest, most efficient ways possible,” Kraft says. “He’s earned this recognition through hard work, and we thank him for his continued dedication to the residents of Minot.”

Every year the Public Safety Heroes program starts on June 1, runs for the duration of the summer and closes on Sept. 1.
