MORBARK 3800 HORIZONTAL GRINDER

Morbark Inc. of Winn, Mich., has introduced a horizontal grinder—the model 3800 Wood Hog, aimed at mid-range wood and green debris recycling applications.

The model has a 38-inch by 59 ¾ -inch infeed opening. A step-frame design creates space under and within the mill area allowing processed material to exit the grinding chamber freely.

Equipped with internal hydraulic drive on the feed wheel, as well as a six-tooth drive sprocket on the bed chain, torque is increased to both the yoke and the infeed chain, eliminating wayward debris and congestion at the mill site, according to a news release from the manufacturer.

The machine has three sections of screen for a total of 3,539 square inches of screening area.

Engine options include Caterpillar or Cummins diesel engines with horsepower ranges from 400 to 630.

Electric power is also available.

Drive train protection comes standard on the model 3800 in the form of a PT Tech hydraulic wet clutch with internal torque limiting device.

An optional twin disc clutch with full breakaway Brunel torque limiter is also offered.

The machine also has Morbark’s Iqan system, a feed and digital monitoring system that is designed to boost production levels by providing a consistent feed to the grinding chamber.

The 3800 weighs in at a little more than 53,000 pounds, making it road legal with no permits required for transport.

A track model will also be available in the near future.

ROCKLAND H23 EXCAVATOR GRAPPLES

Rockland Heavy-Duty H23 Excavator Grapples are designed for working in severe conditions presented in demolition, rock handling and land clearing applications.

The H23 is comprised of a narrow two-tine clamp and wider three-tine frame built from high-strength alloy steel plate with reinforcement at all critical stress points.

Designed for both clamping and digging.

All Rockland grapples are equipped with replaceable wear plates at the front and rear of each tine, as well as heat-treated pivot pins and bushings for additional strength, according to a news release from the manufacturer.

Pin and bushing kits are available for grapple interchangeability between machines, allowing contractors to use their equipment fleets efficiently on different job sites.

OMEGA PIEZO DAMAGE ALERT SYSTEM

Omega Piezo Technologies Inc. has manufactured a damage prevention system for use in wood grinding equipment.

Based on issued and pending patents, the Damage Alert System senses vibration from unwanted metal objects that enter the wood grinder and prevents severe damage by shutting the grinder down and/or reversing the material feeding system.

System sensitivity can be adjusted to allow pass-through objects and eliminate nuisance shut downs.

The system can be installed by using a magnetic clamping mechanism. Once installed, the sensitivity of the Damage Alert System is manually adjusted using the red and green LED indicators. As debris is moved through the machine, the sensitivity level is fine-tuned to detect damaging debris of a prescribed size. The system is then set to the "arm" mode for continuous operation and protection, according to a news release from the manufacturer.

The Damage Alert System was designed for horizontal wood grinders used in construction and demolition operations.
