Shingle Recycler Seeks Permit to Operate in Oregon

Oregon’s Metro is fielding comments on the proposed facility.

Northwest Shingle Recyclers LLC is seeking to build a shingle recycling facility in Portland, Ore. To operate, the company has applied for a Metro (Ore.) Solid Waste Facility License to operate a material recovery facility at the property.

If approved, the company would accept asphalt composition roofing shingles and wood roofing shingles that are associated with roofing tear-off debris for the purpose of sorting out the recyclables for marketing. The recovered asphalt composition roofing shingles will be delivered to an asphalt recycling facility located in Salem, Ore.

The operations will be conducted inside an enclosed roofed building on the subject site. The site is zoned IG2 by the City of Portland. The proposed activity is considered manufacturing and production by the city zoning Code and allowed in the zone.

Comments are being accepted by Oregon Metro until July 15. To review the application, contact Barb Leslie at (503) 797-1835. Parties can send comments to Bill Metzler, Senior Solid Waste Planner, Metro Finance and Regulatory Services, 600 NE Grand Ave., Portland, OR 97232.
