Recent news from suppliers to the demolition and C&D recycling industry

Sparta and General Kinematics join forces on Wisconsin C&D recycling system

Dane County, Wisconsin, has expanded and transformed its transfer station into what its equipment suppliers call a state-of-the-art construction and demolition (C&D) recycling facility. To provide the engineering, design, manufacturing, integration, installation and start-up of its turnkey C&D recycling system, Dane County tapped Notre-Dame, New Brunswick-based Sparta Manufacturing, a supplier of recycling systems for the C&D recycling industry.

Dane Country contracted with Landfill Reduction and Recycling Inc. (LRRI), a Wisconsin-based C&D waste management and recycling company, to operate the county’s C&D facility for the next 10 years.

Sparta Manufacturing says it was able to integrate several pieces of equipment into the Dane County system, including a General Kinematics (GK) Finger-Screen and a GK De-stoner air classifier/density separator. The GK vibratory technology equipment, built in Crystal Lake, Illinois, has been designed to reliably screen and separate the commodities for the C&D processing system.

This synergistic relationship suited all parties involved, and played to the strengths and interests of Sparta and GK alike, according to Howard Fiedler, North American sales manager for Sparta. “The Sparta team likes doing the system-wide engineering; manufacturing all of the conveyors, sort lines, platforms and steelworks package; and installing the system with our own crews. And GK is happy when its Finger-Screens and De-stoners are at the heart of a system,” he says.

Sparta supplied a PLC-based electrical control panel with an Allen Bradley 15-inch HMI (touch-screen) display, which allows Sparta technicians to remotely connect to the system’s control panel to help troubleshoot the system.

BHS grows sales team

Bulk Handling Systems (BHS), Eugene, Oregon, has announced a new organizational structure for its North American sales team, adding three new hires and promoting a veteran employee. The company says the members of the separation technology specialist (STS) team will focus on applications of core solutions, including BHS Tri-Disc screens, Nihot air density products and National Recovery Technologies (NRT) In-Flight Sorting optical sorters.

The new STS team consists of Travis Curtis, Randy Roy and Richard Sweet.

Curtis, having been at BHS subsidiary NRT since 2014, joins BHS to cover the Southeast and central United States. He now adds BHS and Nihot to his offerings.

Roy, newly hired to BHS, will cover the northeastern U.S. and eastern Canada. Before joining BHS, Roy managed technical field service for an Italian manufacturer of digital imaging equipment.

Sweet, promoted from within to the position of senior applications engineer, will cover the northwestern U.S. and western Canada along with having responsibility for continuous technical training for the entire BHS salesforce.

“Despite 2015’s headwind of declining commodity prices, demand for proven and well-supported products helped BHS achieve our strongest sales in company history. We’re investing to ensure this continues,” says BHS Director of Sales Ted Pierpont.

Pierpont continues, “This new team will lead to a better understanding of customer needs and help BHS position solutions to increase automation, improve separation efficiency and solve novel processing challenges.”

BHS designs, engineers, makes and installs sorting systems and components for the solid waste, recycling, waste-to-energy and construction and demolition industries. Its subsidiaries include Nihot, based in Amsterdam; NRT; and Zero Waste Energy, based in California.

Wastequip’s Mountain Tarp debuts mobile service program

Mountain Tarp, a Charlotte, North Carolina-based Wastequip brand and tarping solutions manufacturer for the construction, agriculture, transportation, waste and recycling industries, has announced the debut of a mobile service program to handle on-site inspection of truck and trailer tarping systems, as well as parts delivery.

Mountain Tarp recently outfitted two Ram ProMaster 2500 cargo vans to serve tarping customers in Ohio, eastern Kentucky and West Virginia with service for flip tarps, flat bed systems, cable systems, side-roll tarps and rack-and-pinion tarps, the company reports.

Common parts and components also will be available from the van, and special order parts can be delivered directly to a customer’s location.

Mountain Tarp’s new mobile program offers:

  • free tarping system inspection;
  • assessment and consultation for light repairs;
  • deployment/coordination of Mountain Tarp’s existing mobile team for major repairs and installation; and
  • parts delivery.

“Reliable, secure tarps are critical for keeping trucks and trailers on the road,” says John Defenbaugh, president of Wastequip’s mobile products division, including the Mountain Tarp brand. “Tarps take a lot of abuse in all sorts of extreme environments, and timely repairs and/or replacements reduce downtime and boost productivity. With this new mobile service program, we’ll be able to service our customers right at their own facilities, diagnosing potential problems before they sideline their trucks, as well as provide onsite parts delivery to get trucks and trailers back on the road quickly.”

Mountain Tarp offers a line of hydraulic, electrical, semiautomatic and manual tarping systems, including flip tarps for trailers and dump bodies, cable-style solutions for trailers and roll-off systems and a variety of specialty tarp systems for the waste, construction, paving, landscaping, scrap and oil and gas industries.
