Damage Alert System Now Available for Tub and Horizontal Grinders

Omega Piezo Technologies Inc. has manufactured a damage reduction system for both tub and horizontal wood grinders. The Damage Alert System senses vibrations from unwanted metal objects that enter the wood grinder and reduces damage by shutting the grinder down and/or reversing the material feeding system, according to the manufacturer.

The Damage Alert System can help reduce repair bills and down-time. System sensitivity can be adjusted to allow pass through objects and reduce nuisance shut downs, the company says.

Once installed, the sensitivity of the Damage Alert System is manually adjusted using the red and green LED indicators. As debris moves through the machine, the sensitivity level is fine-tuned to detect damaging debris of a prescribed size; the system is then set to the ARM mode for continuous operation and protection.

In the ARM mode, any pulses which are intense enough to illuminate the red section of the bar graph display will trip the system relay, instantly powering down the grinder or reversing the in-feed. The tripped condition is indicated with the steady illumination of the LED bar at the top of the display. If the grinder shuts down, the relay remains tripped, and the top LED remains illuminated until the obstruction is removed and the system is reset.

Sennebogen Opening Distribution Center in North Carolina

Sennebogen North America has announced that it is opening a 48,000-square-foot distribution, training and technical support center in East Lincoln County, N.C. The capital investment on the project is approximately $5.1 million.

To assist Sennebogen in building the facility, the Lincoln County Commissioners have approved an incentive grant of $17,895.15 per year over a five-year period.

"The support we have gotten from the Lincoln Economic Development Association played a major role in our decision to locate to Lincoln County. Barry Matherly did a fantastic job at finding the right location for us as well as helping with the decision making process. LEDA is by far the best development association in the region. Eastern Lincoln County offers a great connection to highways, the airport and infrastructure available in the region," says Constantino Lannes, president of Sennebogen North America.

"It’s been a pleasure working with Sennebogen and Mr. Lannes during the first stages of establishing their company in the eastern part of the county. It’s exciting to work with a company with such a strong vision of growth in the future," says Crystal Gettys, existing business manager for the Lincoln Economic Development Association.

The company will be moving into roughly 30 acres, which gives it additional land for expansion possibilities.

The company hopes to be in the location and operational by early next year.

Atlas Copco Introduces New Attachment

n Atlas Copco, Westfield, Mass., has added another unit to its line of Combi Cutter hydraulic demolition attachments. The CC 2500 offers faster jaw replacement, enhanced stability and shorter cycle times.

Both universal and steel-cutting jaws are available for the new unit. Opening to a width of 34.6 inches, the universal jaws are suited for heavily reinforced concrete demolition, building demolition, secondary reduction and material separation. The steel-cutting jaws open 16.8 inches wide and are effective for steel structure demolition, secondary reduction and material separation. Both jaws deliver a maximum cutting force of 330 tons.

Additional features of the CC 2500 include a single pin jaw retention design that improves tool visibility for the operator, decreases the total weight of the unit and reduces the time required to switch between the different sets of cutting jaws. The CC 2500 also comes with a coupling and positioning system (CAPS) that keeps each set of jaws connected after they have been removed and facilitates refitting through a special guide system.

The CC 2500 has been designed with an advanced speed valve and enlarged cross sections of hydraulic lines, allowing it to open and close in less than six seconds, according to the manufacturer. Additionally, the attachment is configured so that the single jaw passes through a double jaw, maximizing stability. With a maximum operating pressure of 5,075 psi, the CC 2500 is compatible with carriers in the 22 to 35 metric ton weight class.

Each of the attachment’s moving jaws has a separate hydraulic cylinder, allowing the jaws to move independently, which prevents damaging reaction forces from being transferred to the cutter or its carrier. In addition, the unit hydraulically rotates 360 degrees and a built-in rotation protection system reduces wear and tear on the carrier.

Mustang Upgrades Compact Track Loader Line

Mustang Manufacturing Co., West Bend, Wis., has announced the availability of three upgraded compact track loader models.

Mustang models MTL16, MTL20 and MTL25 have been revised to become models MTL316, MTL320 and MTL325. The machines have been updated to meet Tier 3 engine emissions regulations and have undergone other product improvements, according to the company. A fourth Mustang track loader, model MTL312 (announced in March 2008), brings the total number of track loader units in the compact equipment manufacturer’s product line to four.

The upgraded models’ high-powered, Tier 3 EPA-certified engines are designed to meet emissions standards. Horsepower has been increased and now ranges from 66 to 92 hp. The new models are capable of traveling up to 7.5 mph.

Other improvements include a new standard foot throttle and an improved control handle design with additional switches. Standard proportional auxiliary hydraulics, controlled by a thumb switch, replace the former foot-pedal control design. Models MTL320 and MTL325 are available with a high-flow option (36 gpm on MTL320, 40 gpm on MTL325).
