Atlas Copco adds distributor
Atlas Copco Construction Equipment, Commerce City, Colorado, has named Stewart & Stevenson, a Houston-based equipment manufacturer and distributor, as a distributor for its line of generators, portable air compressors, boosters and associated equipment in several regions of the U.S.
“The Atlas Copco product line meshes well with the equipment and rental needs of customers in the markets that we serve,” says Bill Simmons, president and CEO of Stewart & Stevenson Power Products. “It is a great addition to our offerings.”
Andy Hudson, Stewart & Stevenson’s vice president of rental operations, says, “This partnership with Atlas Copco positions us to offer our customers one of the industry’s highest quality product names in power generation and compressed air.”
Erik Sparby, president of Atlas Copco, says, “Our distributors are the face the customers see when tackling solution challenges. We believe we are only successful when our customers are successful, and this new relationship with Stewart & Stevenson turns that goal into a reality. We are excited to begin our partnership with them.”
Alan Kurus, vice president of sales for Atlas Copco, says, “Stewart & Stevenson has a great leadership team that makes their customers a top priority.”
Moley Magnetics partners with Italian grapple company
Moley Magnetics Inc., Buffalo, New York, has partnered with Italy-based Minelli s.r.l. In this partnership, Minelli will produce a wide range of private-label grapple solutions for Moley Magnetics for the scrap, environmental, recycling, demolition and railroad industries to solve challenges for handling different materials.
The companies say this strategic private-label partnership represents an opportunity for incremental volume to better leverage Moley Magnetics’ and Minelli’s manufacturing operations as well as to drive additional operational efficiencies through their production and supply chain.
Minelli is a manufacturer of hydraulic equipment to handle bulk materials, particularly in the scrap, environmental and recycling sectors. All of Minelli’s products are fully manufactured in its Cazzago San Martino, Italy, plant.
Minelli says it is the first company to be awarded the Hardox certification for its orange-peel grabs.

MSS celebrates 40th anniversary
The Nashville, Tennessee-based optical sorting equipment manufacturer MSS Inc. (formerly Magnetic Separation Systems) is celebrating 40 years of developing and manufacturing optical sorting technologies, several of which are still in use.
The company was founded in 1974 by physicist Garry Kenny. In 1976, MSS released what it says is the first commercially successful eddy-current separator, the PULSORT, which was used to separate nonferrous materials from municipal waste.
Subsequent products MSS has released include the BottleSort for plastic bottle resin and color sorting and the PaperSort, what it says is the first commercially available optical paper sorter.
Over the next four decades, MSS says it continued to optimize its equipment. The latest high-resolution sensors include the CIRRUS for near-infrared material sorting, the L-VIS for color and shape separation and the MetalSort for separating metals.
“It is very unusual that a single company continually breaks ground as MSS does,” says Kenny. “By continually developing new technologies and exploring new applications, MSS has maintained its reputation as a leader in the optical sorting industry.”
In 2003, MSS was acquired by the CP Group, a San Diego-based supplier of automated processing and sorting systems.
“In the 11 years since MSS joined the CP family of companies, we have continued that tradition of innovation,” says Terry Schneider, CP Group COO and president. “The CP Group is committed to the highest standards of quality, and to offering our customers a variety of solutions and equipment. The merging of MSS and CP has been the perfect match.”
The CP Group consists of five companies: CP Manufacturing, Krause Manufacturing, MSS, IPS Balers and Advanced MRF. It specializes in material recovery facilities (MRFs) for single-stream, C&D, municipal solid waste, commercial and industrial and e-waste recycling and front-end waste-to-energy systems.
