The AMM Midwest Scrap Index is calculated based on transaction data received that are then tonnage-weighted and normalized to produce a final index value. The detailed methodology is available at www.amm.com/pricing/methodology.html.

All prices are effective the 10th of the month or the following Monday if the 10th falls on the weekend.

No. 1 HMS defined as prepared obsolete scrap, 5 feet long and under. Additional pricing information on each grade can be found at www.RecyclingToday.com.

The Steel Recycling Institute (www.recycle-steel.org) says the 2011 steel recycling rate in the United States reached a record 92 percent, with more than 85 million tons of steel scrap consumed, an increase of nearly 10 million net tons from the previous year.
