NDA Releases Schedule, Speakers for Annual Convention
The National Demolition Association (NDA) has announced its lineup of speakers for its annual conference to be held March 20-23 in Las Vegas. The convention is the largest exposition of demolition equipment and services in the world, according to the NDA.
Kicking off the program will be Gen. (Ret.) Daniel Christman, international affairs expert with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and former superintendent of West Point, who will be the keynote speaker at the 37th Annual National Demolition Association Convention. The theme of his presentation on Monday, March 22 will be "Leadership in Times of Crisis."
Following Gen. Christman's presentation, the first speaker of the convention, Bob Mellinger of Attanium Corp., Gainesville, Va., will offer advice on improving crisis communications and decision-making skills in his talk "The Disaster Experience: QuickFire." That evening, all delegates are invited to the '60s-style “Beatles Love Extravaganza” theme party in the Grand Ballroom.
Other educational sessions include the following:
• “Survive to Thrive: Making the Transition: Coping with the Downturn and Planning for Recovery,” presented by Greg Hoyle of Hoyle & Associates, Denver.
• “Safety and Your Bottom Line” will address the subject of how well-planned and executed safety programs can become profit centers.
• “Green Marketing and LEED: Is There Money in it for You?” will be presented by John Lloyd of Lloyd's Construction Services, Savage, Minn., and Jason Haus of Dem-Con Companies, Shakopee, Minn.
NRMCA Announces Conference Details
The National Ready Mixed Concrete Association (NRMCA), Silver Springs, Md., has announced the roster of speakers for its 2010 Concrete Sustainability Conference, scheduled for April 13-15 in Tempe, Ariz. The conference, sponsored by NRMCA and the School of Sustainable Engineering and The Built Environment at Arizona State University (ASU), will feature more than 50 speakers.
Several prominent keynote speakers will present during the opening and closing general session. Paul Johnson, executive dean of the Ira A. Fulton School of Engineering, will present on the steps ASU has taken to become a sustainable university. Mark Wilhelm, principal of Green Ideas Environmental Building Consultants, Phoenix, will provide an update on the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System. Wayne Trusty, president of Kutztown, Pa.-based Athena Institute, will speak on how life cycle assessment can measure environmental performance. Franz-Josef Ulm, a professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), will present work being done at the MIT Concrete Sustainability Hub to improve the efficiency of cement and concrete through nanotechnology.
The NRMCA says the fifth annual conference will provide learning and networking opportunities on the latest advances, technical knowledge, continuing research, tools and solutions for sustainable concrete manufacturing and construction.
