5 questions about screening equipment

Andrew Lentsch of Unified Screening & Crushing shares the importance of choosing the right screen media.

1. How important is screening media to the health of other wear parts?

Material fatigue is real. Abrasion is the primary reason for wear in crushing applications. Screens play an important role in reducing the chance of fines ending up in your feed. Front-line teams are instrumental in identifying when screen wear is impacting their production.

2. What if I am screening more than one product?

Size matters. Different square openings can help maximize production especially when separating multiple products. A record day of rock on the ground is worthless if it’s contaminated or not sized correctly. Sorting any kind of rock requires accurate screen openings. Whether you are screening for rock, soils, sand or gravel—even construction and demolition materials—Unified stocks the largest inventory of square opening screen sizes. And we can manufacture an opening to your individual specifications.

3. Unified is more than just screen media. Tell me about your wear parts and crusher inventory.

Unified maintains the largest inventories of crusher wear parts across the country, including many that are ready-to-ship. We supply replacement parts for more than 50 OEMs, and we carry wear parts for rare, out-of-date and custom-manufactured crusher equipment. With 14 facilities around the U.S., we have more than 6,000 parts in stock, including parts for Eljay, Pegson, JCI, Sandvik, Svedala, Cedarapids, McCloskey, Minyu, Symons, Metso, Nordberg, Telsmith, Trio, Extec, Terex, Komatsu, Lippmann, Pioneer and Universal. If we don’t have it in stock, our crusher parts experts will visit on-site to design or engineer a product specific to your needs.

4. What can I expect from Unified wear parts?

Unified knows that producers prefer predictability. Wear consistency allows you to plan changeouts and maintain healthy equipment. If a part wears too quickly, it can cause damage down the line on every component of your plant, including screens, conveyors, jaws and rotors.

We believe the quality of the process begins at the foundry. Unified products are inspected four to five times during the actual manufacturing process. Everything from the heating of the material to the pouring temperatures—even the cooling and the quenching processes—are closely monitored. You can count on Unified for wear parts and service that not only improve performance but help extend the lifetime of your wear part and crusher.

5. Is it still important to manufacture here in the U.S.?

Unified is proud to be a family-owned, American manufacturer of screening and sizing media. Domestic weaving and a regional presence at our 14 facilities across the U.S. allow us to offer the best service and on-site expertise for all Unified products. It also allows for 24-hour delivery of products on our stock list and fast delivery of custom orders. In addition to manufacturing hundreds of thousands of wire, urethane and rubber screen media products, Unified maintains one of the largest inventories of crusher wear parts. We believe being family-owned is important in our industry, as well as manufacturing in the U.S.
